Gasly fastest on opening day of GP2 Abu Dhabi test; Rossi leads morning
Pierre Gasly, the French Red Bull up-and-comer now driving for DAMS, was fastest on the opening day of the GP2 Series preseason test at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.
Gasly, who raced a partial season a year ago for Caterham Racing when it was operated by Status GP, set the afternoon best time of 1:48.897.
Campos Racing driver Arthur Pic was second with Trident’s pairing of Raffaele Marciello, the Ferrari Academy driver, and Rene Binder. Ex-Sauber test driver Sergey Sirotkin, who’s driving for Rapax, completed the top five.
American Alexander Rossi led the morning session at 1:50.845, driving for Racing Engineering. He ended the day ninth in the 26-car field as he returns to GP2 for another season.
