CHAT WITH SOUBOYY: SUSHI IN KOLKATA

This was quite an emotional moment for me…I was studying English Literature in Mithibai College, Mumbai (Sushi happens to be from my college too), when I left a lucrative job in a MNC and started writing for Deccan Chronicle/The Asian Age…I used to sit in our old office in Mathuradas Mill Compound, near Blue Frog…I was sent for an assignment to interview Sushmita Sen (this was some 5 years back)…it was the store launch of Shama Sikander, who was that time dating my friend Alex O’Neil, an american born actor and musician who lives in Mumbai…I met Sushi face to face for the first time, she looked elegant in a white ensemble that Shama has designed for her…I remember the first hug that Sushi gave me, I almost instantly felt like a small kid, I interviewed her in Bangla…that was the first time I met Sushi, she was so beautiful…then I met Sushi many many times, I can’t count…she used to spent hours with us during her I AM SHE, and Blenders Pride Fashion Tour…the Resort Fashion Week in Goa, Lakme Fashion Week, then in a women award ceremony at Atlantis in Dubai, the list can go on and on…I simply love Sushi 🙂 🙂 🙂

Recently, I was invited by Annesh, my childhood friend, and Simon to Blenders Pride Fashion Tour at The Oberoi Grand…I have that night’s pictures for all my blog friends…I was sandwiched in the front row between Bassam Mallick, one of my old friend and an ex-supermodel and Akbar Hassan, a pilot-turned model…Honestly, this was the first time I met Sushi in Kolkata…There was an endless chat on her journey for past 2 decades in the fashion industry…I can write an entire book on Sushi, she is so beautiful and she made us (the bengalis) so proud…she was the first Miss Universe from India, a bengali girl…Sushi was the show-stopper for Namrata (Joshipura) at Blenders Pride Fashion Tour and she dazzled the ramp in that elegant ensemble…When I asked her what difference she sees in Kolkata, she replied in bengali, “Ei to samne dekhte paachii…” / I can see in front of me…The entire chat was in Bangla, I was mesmerised to hear her bangla…And her message that Sushi gave and I twitted immediately for all who loves her is – “BE YOURSELF!” Well, we simply love you for being yourself Sushi ❤ ❤ ❤
