Young and Fresh Designs

Bonjour à Calcutta! I love my city. Who doesn’t? Who doesn’t like to become a little nostalgic sometimes? Professor Binwant Kaur, who happens to be the Director of National Institute of Fashion Technology, Kolkata and a teacher of Fashion Technology invited me to their Graduation Show at Royal Bengal at City Centre. I met one of my old friends from Bombay, Kallol (Datta) who has become more heavy now (lol) and looked more chic indeed in blue. I met another friend Abhi(shek Dutta) after long, and designer duo Dev r Nil, old friend Moitreyee (Mondol) and some others. The show was great and some of the designs of the graduates made me feel as if I was sitting at the Gen Next show of Lakme Fashion Week at Grand Hyatt in Bombay, if Kallol can make it from Gen Next to the Grand Finale in just 2 years, I am sure many of these NIFTians will prove their mettle in forthcoming years. To me, some of them were Sabya or Anamika in the making. The choreography wasn’t the same like LFW, off course, but it was not bad either.
One of my personal favourite was Poulomi (Roy)’s designs – most creative & innovative design award.
Graduate Usha Gupta’s designs got her a best use of traditional skills in contemporary styling award.
On the runaway – Some of my favourite bags, designed by graduates from Leather Design department.
Graduate Radhika Prashar’s designs was my favourite too, and bide best design collection award.
I love these chic bags designed by the Leather Design department of NIFT.
Poulomi Roy’s ‘Dance of the Soul‘ got a breathtaking applause and I adore this girl’s creativity.
